Amplification increases the voltage signal to a level suitable for the analogue-to-digital converter. All Microlink A-D converters are calibrated for input voltages in the 0 to 10 V range. A small voltage, such as that obtained from a thermocouple or strain gauge bridge, may need to be amplified 1000 times to make it a 0 to 10 V signal.
Amplification will usually be offered as one of the standard elements in an analogue input system. Microlink systems have programmable amplifiers.
