Documented Procedures: Control of Documents

Biodata Quality Policy > Documented Procedures > Control of Documents

May 2021

All documents used in the running of the Quality System are subjected to control. This includes standards of workmanship, forms, drawings, procedures and documents of external origin such as those supplied by customers.

This page covers:
Approval and Issue
Changes and Modifications

For detailed instructions on identifying current hardware, software and design documents; changing documents and which documents are required for what purpose, see the Work Instructions 7.1.

Approval and Issue

Standards

Standards of workmanship have been prepared in conjunction with respective departmental heads. The master copies of standards, internal or national, are held by the Technical Director who arranges for new standards when new processes or machining operations arise.

Drawings

A register is maintained of all drawings produced. The master copy of the drawing is kept by the Technical Director. Drawings include schematics, layouts and manufacturing drawings.

Drawings are commissioned by the Technical Director who is also responsible for approving the drawings.

Work Instructions

Instructions are prepared to enable operators to carry out specific tasks. Each set of instructions is approved and allocated a number of the form WK**, or SW** for software, by the Technical Director.

A register of WK and SW instructions issued is maintained by the Technical Director.

Changes and Modifications

Quality Pages

Changes to the Quality pages are controlled through the record of Revisions to the Quality Pages. Changes are controlled by the Managing Director.

Standards

Any changes to standards are controlled by the Managing Director as advised by the Technical Director. All previous issues would be withdrawn and replaced by the new version.

Drawing Changes

Drawing changes could arise from a number of sources ranging from design to customer complaints. For this reason a Design Change Request Form (see Work Instructions 7.1) has been prepared which is available to personnel who may require a change.

Work Instructions

Changes to the instructions may be requested by anyone who identifies an improved method. The change would be made after a satisfactory trial period.

Changes to Work Instructions are controlled by the Technical Director who will raise a new issue number and withdraw the old instructions. Similar controls are applied to SW instructions for software.
